New server

Tuesday, August 29, 2006 am31 7:41 am

DreamHost has moved my account to a new server, which, they say, should help with the load issues. Might be a couple of glitches here and there due to old FTP settings that I now need to update.

Update, 9:15 AM: Wow. Much faster.

Network issues

Monday, August 28, 2006 pm31 3:50 pm

The network issues plaguing DreamHost have still not gone away, and are affecting the performance of my sites, but mainly behind the scenes. It’s a doozy right now: blogging is excruciatingly slow for me at the moment, with new entries taking as much as 20 minutes to save. You may experience something similar when trying to comment, but otherwise my web pages should load normally.

*Glares at DreamHost, taps feet impatiently.*

MySQL down

Monday, August 7, 2006 am31 10:19 am

My MySQL server just went down, which means I can’t edit or post new entries.

Update, 10:33 AM: We’re back; that took less than 15 minutes. Movable Type is still acting extremely slowly (again), though at least I have access to my stuff.

Sites down this morning

Monday, August 7, 2006 am31 8:43 am

All web sites are unresponsive at the moment. I’ve submitted the outages and am hopeful that the downtime will be short this time.

Update, 9:40 AM: And we’re back. Total downtime, about an hour and 10 minutes.

DreamHost’s troubles

Tuesday, August 1, 2006 pm31 9:53 pm

DreamHost explains their month from hell, which in turn explains the various outages that have been plaguing my sites recently (and which inspired the creation of this blog to notify my readers of them). They’re not out of the woods yet, it seems, but this is an excellent account of what’s been happening, and makes me feel better. As you may have guessed, I’m big on granularity and excessive detail; I’d have liked this sooner, but sometimes it takes a while to assemble the big picture.

If all goes well, there will be fewer updates here. I’m crossing my fingers.
